The Pacific Academy of Sciences is honoured to announce that Dr Mitsutaku Makino, President of the Ocean Policy Research Institute (OPRI) at the Sasakawa Peace Foundation, will address the first Pacific Academy of Sciences Congress 2026 as the Foundation’s representative.
Dr Makino is an internationally respected scholar in fisheries governance and ocean policy. He holds a Bachelor, Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy from Kyoto University, and a Master of Philosophy from the University of Cambridge. His career includes senior research leadership within Japan’s National Research Institute of Fisheries Science and professorship at the Atmosphere and Ocean Research Institute, University of Tokyo, alongside active engagement in international marine science bodies.
