Li'amanaia Dr Roannie Ng Shiu
Background:
Li’amanaia Dr. Roannie Ng Shiu is the Executive Director of the Pacific Academy of Sciences. She is also a Senior Research Fellow in Pacific Health and Co-Director of Te Poutoko Ora a Kiwa | Centre for Pacific and Global Health at the University of Auckland (UOA), and an Adjunct Associate Professor at the National University of Samoa.
Dr. Ng Shiu hails from the Samoan villages of Savaia, where she received the chiefly title Li’amanaia, and Leone. After graduating with her PhD from the UOA in 2011, she was appointed as the inaugural Pasifika Australia Research Fellow at the Australian National University. In 2021, Li’amanaia returned to the UOA to support Pacific research and student recruitment strategic initiatives. Dr. Ng Shiu is currently the Working Group One Lead for the Lancet Countdown’s Small Island Developing States (SIDS) Regional Centre.
