The Pacific Academy of Sciences is honoured to announce that Associate Professor Donald Wilson, Director of the Fiji Institute of Pacific Health Research (FIPHR) and Associate Dean – Research at the College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences, Fiji National University, will deliver a plenary address at the Pacific Academy of Sciences Inaugural Congress 2026.
He will present during Session 13: Ethics & Research on 18 February 2026.
A public health physician with expertise in occupational and environmental epidemiology, he spent 12 years in Japan where he obtained his PhD. His doctoral research examined the respiratory health effects of ambient air pollution in industrial cities of Northeastern China.
Since April 2019, he has served as Associate Dean – Research and Director of the Fiji Institute of Pacific Health Research (FIPHR). Prior to this, he was Head of the School of Public Health and Primary Care for three years.
His research interests include water-sensitive diseases and re-emerging communicable diseases, sexual and reproductive health, and non-communicable diseases, particularly disease burden and policy responses. He also leads local educational and workforce capacity-building initiatives under WISH Fiji.
