PAS delivers statement at UN HLPF 2026

PAS Executive Director Li’amanaia Dr Roannie Ng Shiu was part of the International Science Council (ISC) delegation to the 2026 High‑level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) in New York.

Speaking on behalf of the Scientific and Technological Community Major Group in Session 1: Transforming water systems with science, technology and innovation, Dr Ng Shiu highlighted the need for stronger implementation of existing scientific knowledge to achieve SDG 6. She reflected on Pacific water security challenges and emphasised the importance of solutions co‑produced with communities, drawing on science, engineering, and Indigenous and local knowledge.

Dr Ng Shiu also noted that Small Island Developing States are centres of innovation offering lessons for global water resilience, and called on Member States to make better use of scientific evidence and engineering expertise in shaping water policy.
