Honiara Blue Economy Research Conference brings together ocean researchers, coastal community leaders and policy partners for two days of practical work on Pacific-led blue economy priorities.
The conference asks what research is most useful when fisheries, tourism, climate adaptation and community wellbeing are all changing at once. Sessions pair short evidence briefings with talanoa-style working groups so participants can test ideas against local realities.
Online participation is built into the programme, with livestreamed plenaries and moderated digital breakouts for participants joining from across the region. The final session produces a short set of research priorities for circulation to partners after the event.
Programme
Day 1 - Ocean evidence and community priorities
Opening keynote, local case studies from Guadalcanal and Western Province, and working groups on fisheries, coastal monitoring and community data ownership.
Day 2 - Turning research into action
Policy roundtables, mentoring clinics for early-career researchers, and a closing session to agree the draft Honiara blue economy research priorities.
Speakers
Speakers will include Solomon Islands researchers, community practitioners, Pacific Futures fellows and invited regional partners working across marine science, climate adaptation and policy translation.
