Background:
We are pleased to announce Mr Sefanaia Nawadra, Director General of the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP), as a plenary speaker at the Pacific Academy of Sciences Inaugural Congress 2026, held 16–18 February at Taumeasina Island Resort, Apia, Samoa.
Mr Nawadra, a Fijian national with over 30 years’ experience in regional and global environmental leadership, has held senior roles including across SPREP, the UN Environment Programme, Conservation International, and the Fiji Government.
He holds a degree in Environmental Engineering from the University of Canberra and a Master of Environmental Management from Imperial College London.
As the Director General of SPREP, the Pacific’s principal intergovernmental organisation for environmental protection, he leads initiatives on climate change resilience, biodiversity, waste management, pollution control, and environmental governance.
His plenary will provide a regional perspective on climate change in the Pacific, highlighting science-informed responses, collective action, and Pacific-led solutions.
