The Pacific Academy of Sciences (PAS) is pleased to announce that applications are now open for the 2026 Tupaia Research Grants.
Named in honour of Tupaia, the renowned Pacific navigator and translator from Ra'iātea, the grants support Indigenous Pacific Early Career Researchers to undertake innovative, Pacific-led research that addresses regional priorities and delivers meaningful benefits to Pacific communities.
Funded through the generous support of New Zealand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, grants of up to NZD $50,000 are available for research projects of up to 12 months in duration.
The programme is open to Indigenous Pacific Early Career Researchers who ordinarily reside in a Pacific Island country and have completed their PhD within the past ten years. Research proposals must align with one or more of PAS's priority research areas and demonstrate clear potential for community and regional impact.

Applications are now open and close on 14 October 2026 at 11:59 pm WST (GMT +13).
PAS encourages eligible researchers to apply and contribute to advancing Pacific-led research, knowledge, and solutions for the region.
